Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally aboutwhat to believe or what to do. According to a report on the WorldEconomic Forum (2016), critical thinking, creativity, and their practicalapplication are widely accepted as the top three skills that young peopleneed to possess in their future career.
A good critical thinker usually takes the following steps before he decides what to do. Whenever he needs to do something, he would, first of all, reason. He checks why he needs to do it and whether he really needs to do it.Then, analyze. He tries to find out what it really is and the best way to do it. After that, evaluate. He makes sure whether he is ableto do it and how to do it well. Finally, he makes the decision and takes action. Take the “Double 11” (apopular online shopping day in China) as an example. A few days before it, he checks carefully what he needsand whether he really needs them, and makes a shopping list. He goes to the online shops to compare thequality and the prices of the things that he is going to buy. He compares the shops that sell these things.
Then he checks whether he can afford them and in which shops he is going to buy them. Although it takes him some time to make the decisions, he would not regret after the shopping. Then what would happen if he didn't think critically before he made the decisions? After the crazy “Double 11”, there were usually a lot of complaints on the Internet. There were regrets about buying more things than they needed. There were complaints about the poor quality and the prices of the things they bought. There were also complaints because they received wrong things or simply received nothing. There were all kinds of regrets and complaints. Why so? They had not thought critically before they made thedecisions.

The Nobel Prize usually goes to doctors, writers or scientists. But this year a singer has won it for the first time.
This month United States musician Bob Dylan was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature. According to the Nobel Prize website, the rock legend, whowas 75years old,won the prize for having created new poetic expresions(诗歌的表达) within the great American song tradition.
People regard Dylan as an informal US historian. Many of his famous songs were written in the 1960s, when he sung about improving the rights of black Americans and protesting (抗议) the involvement (卷入) of the US in the Vietnam War. Blowin’ in the Wind and The Times They Are A-Changin’ are two of Dylan’s most famous protest songs.
Sara Danius, the secretary of the Swedish Academy, was one of the people who chose Dylan for the award.
She said he had been chosen because he was “a great poet in the English speaking tradition”. In the future she predicts (预测) that people will read Dylan’s lyrics(歌词) as poetry, just like many people read or listen to poetry today that was written thousands of years ago. US President Barack Obama agreed with her. “Congratulations to one of my favorite poets,” he wrote on Twitter.
Not everyone thinks it is a good decision, though. Some experts believe the award should not be given to a singer. But BBC’s Colin Paterson says Dylan should be remembered as a writer, not a singer, because he “made the lyrics more important than the music”.
Dylan is still performing his songs and is expected to accept his award on Dec 10.

39. According to Colin Paterson, _____.
A. it’s not a good decision to give the award to Dylan
B. a Nobel Prize should not be given to a singer

Recently, the film Dangal has been a hit topic. It is about a wrestler, who loses the hope of having a son, finding his daughters' talent and training to make wrestling history. The film is inspiring and has aroused a heated discussion..
On one hand, some people think everyone has to work hard and keep working hard so as to make his dream come true. Besides, we should be brave to fight against some old tradition.
On the other hand, people also had the idea that parents should choose the proper way to educate children as each is unique. Also, parents should not impose their dreams to children.
In my opinion, the father's strictness helps the daughter to the upmost, just as the old saying goes No pain, no gains. If everyone develops his own talent, he is surely to be a star.
