Accounting and Finance personal statement

I have always had a keen interest in Mathematics from an early age. From studying Maths at A-Level, I have gained further insight into the practical application of the subject, especially in the "Decision Mathematics" modules. It is this practical application that has led me to look at other maths-related subjects such as finance, accounting and business. I am especially interested in a course combining maths, with one or more of these applications.

I have always had a logical, organised and practical way of thinking, as well as a competitive nature, and maths has always appealed to these characteristics. I have always enjoyed the challenging nature of mathematical problems, and have a diligent and resilient approach to any problem given to me. I find that discovering the correct answer to a problem, regardless of how frustrating or difficult the challenge, extremely satisfying. Maths transcends language barriers, and its understanding is vital internationally. This has always fascinated me, and I feel passionately about further developing such a priceless understanding

I am fully aware of the unlimited career prospects created by a degree in Mathematics, and I find this another reason to study the subject further. I am interested in a career involving finance andor accountancy. I am currently looking further into the full range of careers available to Mathematics graduates, and also investigating how maths is used in businesses worldwide. I attended an open day workshop at PriceWaterhouseCoopers during the summer, where I took part in team activities and explored every aspect of the business, prompting me to further explore careers in Maths related areas.

Although it is Mathematics that I am specifically interested in studying further, I am also very eager to make use of the skills I have learnt in my other A-Level subjects. I hope that studying Business as part of a Mathematics degree will allow me to continue to practice my skills in the subjects of English and Psychology. I gained the second highest grade in AS English Language in my college, and believe that my skills in text analysis and looking how language is used in certain contexts, as well as my creative writing expertise and knowledge of a variety of discourses will benefit me greatly, not only in terms of a degree, but throughout my working life. Through my studies in Psychology, I have gained an insight into human behaviour, especially Stress and Memory. These modules have provided me with information into how stress occurs, how it affects individuals differently, and coping strategies, as well as the most effective revision strategies. All of these elements can be hugely beneficial when put into practice in a university and working environment.

I am currently working part-time as a Customer Service Assistant for Wickes Building Supplies. During my time with the company, I have gained a Btec in Customer Service, as well as an award for outstanding performance. My job role involves cash handling, serving customers, and dealing with customer enquiries and complaints, both in person and over the phone. Working so closely with the public has increased my confidence, and my interpersonal skills as well as giving me an insight into how businesses, especially the retail business, work.

I often have to apply my mathematical skill in my job, for example, when working out measurements and quantities for projects, and also converting units of measurement, as well as putting into practice ways of increasing sales and profits.

Outside college, I enjoy socialising, going to the gym and rehearsing, writing and performing with my band. I have also recently provided tuition for younger children in playing the guitar, which involved me developing skills I had never had to use before. Performing with my band has increased my confidence levels, and I know feel very comfortable with speaking out, and entertaining larger audiences.

Journalism personal statement
The media's the most powerful entity on earth. An interesting quote from Malcolm X, who also claimed, Without education, you're not going anywhere in this world. I wish to combine these two passions and follow my ambition to become a journalist by continuing my studies into Higher Education. It is well known that power attracts and I, like many others, have become enchanted by the power of the written and spoken word. This fascination has created a deep interest in writing, and Journalism provides the perfect outlet to develop my skills.
Ive heard enough about the media industry to realise that experience is everything, and as Sixth Form Reporter on the College committee, I gain regular experience of journalistic writing and meeting deadlines. I have written for the official college Network, which is sent home to parents, and the Student Newspaper.
When selecting my A Level subjects, I seemed drawn to essay based courses. I enjoy writing and the courses undoubtedly helped my writing skills. However, I was required to make the opening of a film in Media, which was an experience to say the least! It increased my interest in Broadcast Journalism. Until that moment, I only had eyes for Print. Creative writing has always been one of my favourite aspects of English, and the coursework gave me the chance to write in whichever style I chose, one piece was a newspaper feature on Chelsea Football Club. I have always been interested in Sports Writing and Im considering specialising in it at a later date. I have chosen to continue four of my five AS Levels onto A2, even though it was not necessary. I have always found Psychology quite challenging as it involves deep levels of critical analysis, so I decided to carry on as I find it extremely intriguing. The different theories as to why humans do the things they do, attract me because I am interested in how people act, though one could hardly call me an anthropologist! My main priorities are English, Media and Sociology as I feel they will aid me most in my ambition, although I still find Psychology a fascinating subject.
I have often said that nothing is impossible, yet asking me to name my favourite book is asking too much. Some much-loved literature includes The Hobbit, Gone With The Wind, and Jane Eyre. In my opinion a good novel should evoke a variety of emotions from beginning to end. Music may not be my first love, but it is definitely one of my passions; I have high passes in grade 3 flute, singing, and grade 5 piano. Like my literary tastes, my choice of music is eclectic; I like anything from hip-hop to classical, soul to rock, and past to present. I also love Black history, musicals, and icons of film and music, such as Audrey Hepburn, John Lennon, and Sinatra. Lennon once said, We all want to change the world, I empathise with this view and seek to achieve it using my chosen profession and the power of the media.

Law Personal Statement 法律专业个人陈述(PS)范文
English, being the most diverse language in the world in terms of vocabulary range and one of the most heavily influenced by other cultures, makes for fascinating study and usage.Drawing influences from Celtic, West Germanic dialects, Latin, Greek and French to name but a few make the English language riveting both in terms of use and etymology. The almost ambiguous way writers can create texts that can evoke completely opposite emotions with the same language. Shakespeare created an initially pitiable character of Macbeth and transformed him into a detestable shell of humanity. Whereas, Bront created Jane Eyre who you genuinely empathised with. The ability to construct these characters and real emotions from words is truly amazing.
The ability to express yourself clearly and concisely is important in any course and work of life and my part time work in the garden centre Dobbies has helped develop my communication skills. This involved working with customers often in problematic situations, listening, explaining and solving problems or queries they may have. This also involved working with and around other employees which has developed my team working skills. I have also been given the opportunity to help train a new employee by having them shadow with me,this involved a large amount of communication between myself and the new member of staff as the learning curve is at times rather steep. This too shows the trust my employers have in my competence of work.
For years I have played rugby at various levels, from school and club to district. In S2 playing with West of Scotland and winning the Scottish Championship with myself being awarded Man of the Match. The responsibility of playing at a high level has taught me the importance and ability of effective teamwork and when need be the aptitude to exercise confident leadership.
I have in recent months, in my spare time began to teach myself British Sign Language through resources from the internet and material from local libraries. This challenges my time keeping as, although, I have a strong willingness to learn but have to balance my learning around other work for school and activities.
Slightly over a year ago,18 other pupils and I were involved in an expedition to Peru. This was funded by a year of fundraising, the extra work required greatly developed my determination and resolve to achieve my goals. The charity work completed on our expedition included the construction of a new room for a school in a small village called Cachicatta. This work contributed to my progress of attaining my Millennium Volunteer Silver Award which the voluntary work in Peru has contributed to.
Sports, other than rugby, play a large part in my life. I enjoy running recreationally but have previously I have competed at a high level in athletics competing for a Scottish Pentathlon team against England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales. I too enjoy Judo;although relatively new to the sport I find the challenge of learning greatly enjoyable.
Music is important to my life, both listening and playing. I play both electric and acoustic guitar both at a fairly moderate level. I too enjoy listening to a wide variety of music and support many artists both local and well established.

4. 2016工程学专业英国留学申请个人陈述范文

Engineering Personal Statement 工程学个人陈述(PS)
In the 21st century engineering plays a more vital role in our lives than ever before. As I look around myself I observe numerous devices that were designed and constructed by engineers. This fills me with a desire to be a part of this great prolific system of creativity and ingenuity.
There are many factors that have promoted my choice of pursuing a career in engineering. Since my childhood I have been fascinated by the mechanism by which devices function. I recall often opening numerous devices to observe the contraptions that lay within. My fascination has not waned over the years; instead it has been nurtured by the environment that I inhabit. My father is a computer engineer and many of my uncles have occupations in the field of engineering. Living in the residential camp of a multinational oil company has provided me with ample opportunities to converse with renowned engineers. Through my observations I have noticed that engineers are dedicated individuals that work towards making the world a better place for the rest of us.
At my high school I joined the Physicists’ Society and the Applied Mathematics Society. It was through this experience that I discovered my profound interest in Physics and the application of Mathematics to real world scenarios. To complement this I had a wonderful Physics teacher that enriched my learning experience. Both my physics teacher and my guidance counsellor encouraged me to pursue a degree in engineering as they believed that I had the necessary skills. It was then that I decided that I would certainly enter the field of engineering.
With this decision in mind I began reading numerous scientific journals such as New Scientist, Scientific American and National Geographic to keep abreast of any advancement in the field of engineering. I also took a more profound interest in Physics experiments and found that I particularly enjoyed experiments involving circuits. I attended two Engineering Education Programs offered by Saudi Aramco that helped me understand more about my prospective career. I worked assiduously and achieved numerous awards such as the Physicist of the Year Award, Advanced Mathematics Achievement Award and the Business Studies Merit Award. I was also the Valedictorian for Grades 9 and 10.
To complement my academic life I have participated actively in extracurricular activities both outside the school and inside it. I founded the Students’ Association and currently operate it as the Secretary-General. As the Secretary-General I organised two science fairs, held numerous debates and initiated a Model United Nations. I addressed numerous speeches to the school and actively participated in debates at the Model UN. I feel that these activities have refined my communication skills. I also learnt how to organise and coordinate events successfully.
I participated in a variety of sports and played on both the school’s soccer and cricket team. These sports have shown me the importance of teamwork and allow me to participate prolifically in a team. I hope that my captaincy of the school cricket team and my role in the Students’ Association have developed the leadership skills that I will require at university and later in my career.
Along with my interest in reading scientific journals I find reading fiction to be a gratifying experience. I read fiction from various genres, ranging from the works of Charles Dickens to the science fiction of Michael Crichton. I find that reading allows me to utilise my imagination. I also enjoy writing creatively, bicycling and designing machinery.
Although I am applying as an international student I often visit the United Kingdom and believe that I will be able to adapt to life there. As I am taking the most rigorous course that my school offers I feel confident that I will be able to cope with the assiduous work required at university.
As an engineer I would like to be at the forefront of engineering research, advancing the integration of the concepts of physics, chemistry and biology resulting in an amelioration of our daily lives.

English Personal Statement
I have a few strong passions in life; Indie music, Chelsea FC and literature. Since there are no university courses for the former two my decision concerning what to study at university is a simple one. ' The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones mad to live' was once said by Jack Kerouac in his work On The Road; the opportunity to experience living while studying amongst some of the finest literary minds in the country is overwhelmingly exciting for me. Ifeel that for too long I have been confined to my suburban prison where my talent for English Literature is being wasted amongst the desolate, uninspiring confines of Mid Bedfordshire. Moreover, sidestepping the risk of sounding arrogant, I have been told I possess a flair for the subject and my grades would certainly suggest so.
The subjects I took for my AS levels were English Literature, History, Government and Politics and Communication Studies. For my A levels I decided to stop taking Communication Studies as I deemed it was best to focus on three subjects. Nevertheless, I believe that all three of these subjects have contributed more understanding to my knowledge of English Literature. History, for example, has aided my ability to pick out key points within text and also contextualise any written work I may be asked to study. Government and Politics has taught me many political philosophies that are evident in literary works, for example in Year 12 we studied the play Translations which is littered with Nationalist and Imperialist viewpoints. Communications Studies revealed to me a whole new dictionary of ideologies I wasn't previously aware of. Another benefit of taking these subjects is that they are all examined by both coursework and timed exams. This means that through hours of practice and familiarisation I have refined my exam techniques.
Last year I was also fortunate enough to be selected to participate in a scheme organized by my school and the University of Bedford. It gave us the opportunity to get a glimpse of university life as I attended a number of lectures and achieved 15 points towards a potential degree through coursework I took part in. This was certainly an enlightening experience that will undoubtedly stand me in very good stead for the initial adjustment period that accompanies the beginning of university life. This year I have been selected to take part in the Advance Extension Award. Not only is this a fantastic boost to my student repertoire but also the course itself should further aid my ability to realize my full potential in the subject.
When I achieve the required potential and finish my degree I have ambitions to utilise my skills as writer of some kind, preferably an author or a poet. My literary heroes are Thomas Hardy, John Keats, The Smiths lyricist Morrissey and my personal favourite Oscar Wilde. It is my dream to one day have my name illuminated in history as a writer who has inspired people in the same way these and other writers have inspired me.
Lastly, to quote Wilde; 'consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative'. As a student I am anything but consistent when it comes to the studying of literature. Of course by this I don't mean I can be as equally brilliant as awful, the Dorian Gray within me will tell you I am never awful, what I am articulating is that I bring my own ideas to the subject and do not simply regurgitate answers that are well documented already. That is not to say that I do not thoroughly research and acknowledge the criticism of the works I study but in my opinion English Literature is an innovative subject where interpretation and creativity should dominate. Studying English Literature at university offers me a chance to showcase my love for literature and flourish. The Smiths had a hit song once called Ask and the chorus goes 'ask me, ask me, ask me.' Please do.

Accounting & Finance personal statement会计与金融专业个人陈述
Since studying Business at GCSE level and Economics at AS level, I have developed an interest in the role of finance within businesses. Alongside my studies at school, I have also taken inspiration from my involvement in my father's part-time business. I have helped deal with some financial aspects of this business, including banking and completing annual accounts, from which I have developed several skills in working with figures and the ability to accurately handle, organise and analyse information. From this experience, I am intrigued to learn more about finance and accounting.
Currently, I am studying A levels in Psychology, Geography and English Literature. I chose not to continue Economics to A2 level as the specific aspects of my other courses were much more relevant to my personal interests. Each of these subjects has given me valuable knowledge and understanding which I can apply to many other general areas. Studying Psychology has given me an insight into behaviours and attitudes in everyday involvement with people, both relatives and friends as well as within society in general. The human aspects of my Geography course have provided me with the ability to better understand important issues on a global scale. In studying literature I have learnt to communicate ideas more clearly and confidently, both in speech and in writing.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading both fiction books, mostly classic novels, mysteries, science fiction and fantasy, and non-fiction texts, generally including information about natural history and the economy. I read everyday as this is something that I find beneficial to improve my general knowledge and provides me with an opportunity to spend some time on my own. In addition to this, I have an enthusiasm for computing. I am familiar with using spreadsheets, word processors and creative software and I am also learning aspects of web design. In recent years I have learnt skills from my brother, who is a computer programmer, and I am always eager to teach myself new things.
As an individual, I have always aspired to higher education at university as I have a positive and committed attitude to learning new things. The idea of moving on from school life and taking on the challenge of a degree course provides me with motivation and determination to succeed. From studying at university, I intend to develop my personal characteristics and skills and learn to apply the knowledge I gain to pursue a career in an accounting or financial profession.

Accounting and Finance Personal Statement
My passion for Accounting, Business and Finance has developed from observing the progression of my family's business that specialises in independent financial advice. Alongside this I found it fascinating studying A-levels, these subjects gave me a foundation for my academic knowledge leaving me intrigued to learn more, this is how I established that working within the financial industry was for me. I feel that at degree level I can broaden the valuable skills needed in the working environment and develop a method of thinking for challenging issues on decision making. I would like to enhance this by gaining practical work experience by undertaking a work placement to use the knowledge achieved within a degree to real life situations, preparing myself for problems that may arise later in the professional world.
Throughout my studies I have dealt with business case studies reporting on real life organisations. One such case study was Woolworth's where I had to analytically assess the financial performance of the business through ratio analysis and interpret the information drawing conclusions. This enabled me to expand my thinking, comparing businesses and reflecting on information such as the current state of the economy. One particular topic that has interested me is 'Risk Management'. Whilst studying this I have learnt to identify, assess and prioritize risks that a company may encounter. By using cognitive skills of critical thinking throughout projects I am able to measure the risk and uncertainties of a decision and negotiate a preferable outcome.
I currently work for a well established late night music entertainment company. Within my role I have been working on a crew development programme. In which I created a Marketing Plan for the company to stage a night which was presently closed. I had to analyse a market typically shared by the student population from which I was able to budget and forecast for the present night. The research and identifying of analytical influences I undertook proved very successful and it is now an established event. In reward for my commitment and loyalty I have been promoted to Supervisor. I provide leadership to the team ensuring they have the human and physical resources to undertake their work in an efficient manner. Learning to deal with a variety of people shows I am an all rounded person and can deal with responsibilities whist under pressure in a professional and organised manner.

I have under taken work experience for an independent financial advisor with a company called 'Positive Solutions'. I produced their tax returns and other admin work and I experienced how advice is recommended to customers through financial products. My time here gave me a broader knowledge on the financial sector and influenced my decision on a profession within this industry. I also work for the Finance company 'Saga' which has been very interesting to me as I have to utilise several internet based operations whist contacting customers, proving I can multi task. From studying at college and upholding two part time jobs I am organised and have very good time management as I am a motivated and enthusiastic person.

I have trained in a mediation course and I am currently part of a charitable organisation as a volunteer for 'Ashford Mediation Service' which offers a process to allow individuals to find mutually beneficial solutions to problems. From this I have learnt to take an objective approach to situations and find the most suitable arrangement for an individual. I feel this will benefit me with decision making and understanding all aspects of business issues.

I have always been inspired to learn and have a committed approach to progressing onto degree level. I believe it will give me the determination needed to succeed in the world of finance and I will gain from this degree a depth of knowledge and a variety of experience that will prepare me well for a career within the financial services.

Accounting and Mathematics Personal Statement
Attending an interesting and informative lecture on Accounting and Mathematics confirmed my desire to do a degree in this field. I was under the impression that accountancy purely involved dealing with figures, but I learned that they are advisors who help businesses maximise profits whilst minimising liabilities to ensure they comply with regulations. I have also learnt that accountants are always in demand in the economy as they play an important part in any business.
I have always expressed an interest for Maths; from the age of 7, I attended an after school maths class called Kumon, which helped me develop my mental arithmetic skills and apply them to harder and more complex problems. My passion has grown throughout secondary school, but I have become especially interested and aware of topics throughout my studies at A-Level. Studying Maths and Further Maths has provided me with the opportunity to learn different aspects of mathematics in-depth and about the different theories and how they were derived. Furthermore, I feel it has given me an insight into working out statistical problems and relating these to real life situations. My genuine interest and passion for maths has been demonstrated through, and enhanced by, events such as the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge, for which I achieved a silver award. This year I am participating in the MTUK Senior Mathematics Challenge and hoping to achieve high results.
I also study Economics which has allowed me to appreciate how theories are put into practice and has broadened my understanding of issues concerning present day affairs. Studying Economics while in an Economic recession has helped me in many ways. Firstly, in understanding how the government and firms use different policies in order to maintain a healthy business. It has also given me an opportunity to see how the recession has affected people working in various industries and how the government has tried to encourage sales by cutting the value added tax from 17.5% to 15%. With the hope of putting what I had learned into practice, I took the part of financial director in Young Enterprise in Year 10. My responsibilities included the management and allocation of the set-up capital as well as the calculation of revenue, expenses and profit. Here I worked with other members of the team to figure out how the capital would be best spent, allowing me to develop my communication, planning and organisational skills.

Outside school, I like keeping active. This involves going to the gym four times a week and attending a dance class as often as possible in order to keep fit. My personal fitness is very important to me as I feel that it provides me with opportunities to demonstrate concentration and self discipline. While the gym relies on personal motivation and dedication, dance allows me to exercise in a more social atmosphere. In addition to this, I have a part time job in Boots for whom I have been working for over two years. I feel that working there has allowed me to gain skills as an individual, as it has given me the opportunity to develop my communication skills and handle situations using my own initiative.

As an individual I strive to achieve the highest possible result in everything I do. I am looking forward to the challenges I will face at University and am eager to show enthusiasm in furthering my knowledge in the subjects I am the most passionate about.

Accounting and Finance Personal Statement
I have always thoroughly enjoyed Mathematics, and perhaps naturally, I am looking towards a degree course in finance. However, I have other interests beside Mathematics. I believe a Business and Management degree course would be more satisfying because of its diverse elements. When recently I became Deputy Head Girl, my interest in management was awakened. I now have important responsibilities. I have become much more aware of time-management, working as part of a team, setting targets, and representing both the Headmaster and the pupils
Being part of the Sixth Form Council, the school's prefectorial forum, has made me more confident in expressing my opinions, and developing my listening skills
Working as a clerical assistant in an architectural firm in London for my work experience was very rewarding: I improved my computer skills and my ability to tackle new situations. I have also worked for the British Council in Cairo teaching English
I am thoroughly enjoying the International Baccalaureate, and one particular recent project stands out, the Science project. As secretary of our group, I had to make sure that everyone was working, and organise meetings, prepare a formal presentation, which was recorded on video. This project showed how a team worked under pressure, and that working together was essential
I enjoy sport and started playing squash when I first came to ************ and earlier this year I was appointed captain, once again useful experience for dealing with people who are not always willing
Not only do I work with my peers, but I also lead them: I can see how individual efforts affect the entire team. Directing fund raising events for Amnesty International further refined my organisation skills. Recruiting new members to the group tested my promotional abilities as well
I completed Silver level in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme in 1999. I have nearly completed the Gold, which has been very demanding but great fun. The team spirit was a necessity, though the biggest challenge is one's determination
For the first half of my gap year, I will be working to raise money
Then in January 2001 I will set off to Kenya for four months, as part of a conservation team, with 'Africa and Asia Ventures'. I shall be monitoring the turtle population near Nairobi, also surveying the surrounding landscape. This adventure will be a challenge, but I am prepared to tackle it.

Accounting and Finance Personal Statement

My decision to apply for a degree course in Accounting and Finance stems from my research in the college library and my career aspiration to become a chartered accountant. I particularly enjoy administrative work, numerical and statistical exercises, and opportunities to work with others as a team. I am confident that these strengths and transferable skills will be developed in a degree course, and valuable in my subsequent career
In order to get a head start, I have arranged a two-week work experience programme with Ahmed and Co accountancy, which provides services for well-known restaurants, cafes and other businesses. These two week work experience will provide me with a greater understanding of the basic skills required of an accountant, and introduce me to techniques such as cash balance appraisal, budgetary control and current cost accounting
I am currently studying A- Level ICT and History and AS- Level Urdu and Business Studies. Studying AS-Level Business Studies will provide the foundations and understanding of real life problems faced by businesses and the right solutions that are used by professional businesses in order to succeed and A-Level in ICT will give me a better understanding of advanced technology available that can be used in order to process more easily with less time consuming
I am a very active sportsman, taking advantage all sports facilities that my college provides. I look forward to the challenge of a demanding degree course, and am confident that I have the personal qualities and academic motivation to make a success of it.

Accounting and Finance Personal Statement

Since I was very young I have always been interested in accounting and finance and how they operate. In China, my favourite TV programme is the finance programme and I enjoy international finance. I frequently worked in my mother's company to help the staff in the accounts department. All of these have given me an understanding of accounting and finance

My passion for the subject expanded when I chose accounting as part of my A-level programme. Although this subject is somewhat demanding, I find it extremely interesting. I believe this is the right choice for me. I am confident that a course in accounting and finance satisfies my interest. I am looking forward to learning more of accounting in my A-level course

In my spare time I enjoy playing basketball. I play once or twice a week with my friends. I also like to listen to music. I think that playing basketball can help me to increase the team spirit and music can help me relax. Also while I was working as a cleaner in Downing College at Cambridge University, I believe that I gained invaluable experience in dealing with the boss and trying to deliver colleague satisfaction, whilst learning to work effectively and efficiently in a well-structured team. Hopefully I will be able to get this kind of opportunity to work whilst at university. I enjoy my spare time and try to use it effectively

I consider myself to be a hard working outgoing individual. I still have some shortcomings. For example, I am a little bit disorganised sometimes. But I have known this and I am trying to correct it. I have made a timetable to organise my daily life. I am looking forward to the challenge of university life, both socially and mentally. I strongly believe that my years at university will be enjoyable and those that I will remember for the rest of my life. Most of all I am hoping that my chosen subject will give me a strong foundation for a successful career.

Accounting & Finance/Economics Personal Statement

From the moment I began considering careers and courses at university, I have always been drawn towards business and financial routes. I would say this is because I feel I have the right qualities for these routes, especially the ability to think logically and analytically.

I feel accounting will offer me a steady career path in the financial world that could lead on to other related fields such as investment banking or financial analysis.

Another reason I am attracted to accounting is that I have a strong interest in corporate business and the economy. I read the BBC's section on the economy and business almost every day; I find it incredible to observe how economic changes higher up can have enormous effects lower down upon the public, such as the buyout of HBOS by Lloyds TSB or the current credit crunch leading us into a recession. I often have discussions with my father and older brother who are very experienced with the current working world, with regards to the property market, economy and current affairs related to the economy such as new laws and taxes.

I attended a presentation given by two trainee accountants currently studying to become chartered under the ACA professional body. I was intrigued to learn the different routes into accounting, and the opportunities the subject and career provide. This confirmed my initial aspiration to enter the accountancy and finance profession.

At Advanced level I have enjoyed studying varied subjects. I am consistently perplexed by the complexity of organisms that are studied in biology, and take pleasure in learning how humans, animals and plants are adapted and how they evolve.

Design Technology gives me a chance to be creative and do hands on work. It's simply remarkable to produce a product from initial conception and research right through to manufacture and evaluation. Theory work in D&T is also very intriguing; there is great emphasis on business and markets, and when designing one needs good problem solving skills as they need to work to a set of goals to solve a real market issue. Attaining a high grade at Advanced Subsidiary level shows my determination to achieve the highest standard of work.

ICT is an ever important part in society, and as such I feel it is a highly relevant subject. ICT looks at the close links between business and technology which forms a strong relationship crucial to any business or working environment. I have advanced IT and computing skills, and am capable of using IT to its full potential in order to assist me with work.

I have good written communication skills, and often enjoy writing opinionative articles and short stories on online communities. I feel this benefits me when writing essays or reports as I can write fluidly and clearly. Studying Critical Thinking at Advanced Subsidiary level has contributed to my writing abilities, as it is shown me how to analyse, structure and write arguments.

I also have good presentation skills; I am adept in the art of presentation where I make gooduse of ICT, imagery and language to engage my audience and thoroughly communicate the topic which I may be presenting.

Outside of school, I have many interests and hobbies. One of my favourite interests is music. I enjoy playing guitar of a wide variety of styles such as blues, funk and rock and am currently studying for a Grade 8 qualification. I enjoy playing with friends in a band as it gives me a chance to work as part of team to produce fully structured songs. Within school I attend a blues club held by a senior music teacher and have also taken part in music evenings held by the music department.

My varied subjects and the skills I have attained along with my outside interests have led me to develop a strong interest in accounting, finance and the economy. As a result I am exceptionally motivated and dedicated to succeeding in university and having a successful career in accounting and finance.

Accounting and finance personal statement

This is Ali Hassan and I intend to purse my further studies in the field of accounting. What I think about this field is “Accounting is like Art’. You have to analyse every aspect before making a just decision. I believe that if someone is good at art, he would be good at accounts because you need logic, everything has a set order and method. Each piece is placed carefully and has a high significance amongst its environment. You need analytical skills. Take apart every piece of information and use it to make your own decisions.

I have studied accounts as my own and have developed an interest in it and would therefore like to continue doing so at LUMS. The course that I would like to do at LUMS is Business Accounts or Accounts and Finance. I feel that the two subjects combine well with one another and on many occasions I have founds that my knowledge of one has helped me with the other. Studying Maths has also provided me with logic and a greater understanding of various concepts and methods. I have become more flexible in identifying what concepts need to be used and when, thus, helping me achieve the greatest results possible. I have the ability to pick up skills and knowledge quickly and am independent enough to conduct my own study and research. On many occasions at college I have taught myself various chapters in maths in order to remain ahead of the class.

My main ambition for the future is to become an Accountant Executive or a Financial Advisor. I am hoping university will provide me with an understanding of the business world as well as offering me a wide range of choices and connections after my course.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, swimming, sketching and solving puzzles and logic problems.

I assure you that if provided a chance I will prove myself a promising and committed studen

“Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later. Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.” When I watched the video of Steve Jobs’Commencement Address at Stanford University for the first time, I failed to acquire an exact understanding of the figurative meaning of the dots in our lives, but now, four years later, when I look back, a map of dots with lines connecting them gradually, and yet clearly, appears in my mind - and the next dot is named “Graduate Study in Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy at University of Wisconsin - Madison.”
The first dot is about my grandma’s choice of treatment of her liver cancer. I still remember when she was dying, tears sliding down her wrinkled cheeks, she murmured “I should have chosen conservative treatment to die peacefully in bed …I should have…” That unforgettable memory still lingers on my mind and keeps me reflecting on methods of guiding patients to make better decisions, and evaluating the health related quality of life. Therefore, I determined to minor in Pharmacy, to explore the pharmaceutical field further - and this led precisely to the second dot on my journey.
In the second year of my college life, I began my minor courses in Pharmacy - a fantastic world of science, and gradually I have acquired a thorough knowledge of Pharmacy. Based on the study of Pharmacology, I started to learn Pharmacotherapy by myself, and progressively got to know the corresponding medication therapies to treat and prevent each kind of diseases, and realized the importance of safe, appropriate and economical drug therapy for achieving outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life. During this exploring, I encountered another subject -Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy.
Later on, a lecture called “Comparison Study of Education in Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy in China and USA” solidified my interest in this discipline. With the guidance of the lecturer, Professor HU, and through searching information about this area, I formulated a clear vision of the purpose of research in this discipline - to improve the use of pharmaceutical products and services, foster the delivery of pharmaceutical care, and shape the health system appropriately, through applying interdisciplinary theories. Exultantly, my undiscovered passion for this field was ignited. Considering my personality, life experience and social conscience, I have no doubt that Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy is the right prospective research area for me. I resolve to pursue my graduate study in this area in the United States - this is the third and one of the most crucial dots on the route of my adventurous voyage.
Ever since I made my decision, I have prepared my graduate study in the United States dot by dot. I managed to develop my interest in this discipline without weakening my performance of my major English, and participation in variou activities. I ranked first in the overall performance of my major and minor in Pharmacy, and won the National Scholarship. With regards to activities and volunteer works, student leader forums, English club and summer social practice activities cultivated my strong leadership and organization skills; additionally, debate and speech competitions, and volunteer experience developed my communication and presentation skills, which are my assets that will largely benefit my future study and career development, as well as the graduate program in which I will get enrolled.
At the same time, Pharmacoeconomics course and related literature have broadened my insight into Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy. Throughout the process, I developed considerable literature retrieval skills and sharp abilities to grasp new concepts and knowledge quickly. Also, through involving in the Open Experiment in the Enzyme Engineering Laboratory, I learned to be an excellent coordinator, building a bridge between teachers and other research teammates. From March this year, I have taken an active part in the research project on Comparison Study of Chinese GMP 2010 and GMP 1998. During this research I sharpened my analytical abilities, critical thinking skills, as well as built strong team spirit. I will assist the research advisor Professor HU to deliver a series of lectures in our university and pharmaceutical companies. During my colorful college life, I have made a substantial number of presentations at class, department and school levels. And as one of the best students, I have participated in study method seminars for many times to instruct freshmen and sophomores in learning and researching. Therefore, I have the confidence to say that I will be qualified for teaching or research assistantship in my graduate study.Because of the aforementioned skills and knowledge I gained, this month I am participating in the research project the Pharmacoeconomic Evaluation of Diabetes in China, which will pave the way for my graduate research.
The further I explored in this area, the more clearly I realized the dire need for talents specialized in Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy - I hope to become one of them, to be in a marketing leadership position in order to push Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises to become global players - this will certainly be a dot on my life expedition.
In order to achieve this professional goal, an advanced degree is indispensible, and the Ph.D. program in Social and Administrative Sciences in Pharmacy at University of Wisconsin - Madison is an excellent fit for me. Via a Ph.D. program, I plan to focus my research and study on Pharmacy Marketing, especially on consumer behavior, and pharmacy goods and services promotion. Research on various areas of the faculty in your department is extremely attractive to me, especially Professor Kreling’s research. His research, Now You See It. Now You Don't: Fair Balance and Adequate Provision in Advertisements for Drugs Before and After the Switch From Prescription to Over-the-Counter, which studies the differences in advertising of drugs that have been switched from prescription to OTC from a unique perspective, makes me realize the strong impact of both prescription and OTC drugs advertising on consumers’ decisions. Another article of Professor Kreling, Do Seniors Get The Medicines Prescribed For Them? Evidence From The 1996-1999 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey, exposes me to the problems of medicine use in the increasing elderly population, an important and growing problem the world over, which I want to explore further during my graduate study.
Other Courses offered by your program, will also hone my skills. For instance, Pharmaceutical Marketing and Policy will definitely give me more training on the applications of marketing and policy theories and principles to pharmacy, which will be fundamental for my future research on pharmacy goods and services promotion and marketing during my graduate research and prospective career life. Additionally, courses like Methods of Research and Analysis, will equip me with advanced methods of designing and conducting research, as well as statistic and analytic skills, which will fully prepare me for conducting marketing research on my future career path.
In the commencement address, Jobs said that we have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in our future, and thus it will give us the confidence to follow our heart, even when it leads us off the well-worn path. In retrospect, I am surprised to find the dots do connect down the road, and, in this process, I’ve accumulated valuable knowledge and experiences that I can apply into my future study and research. In terms of future, I firmly believe graduate study at University of Wisconsin - Madison will be the next requisite dot on my pursuit of what I love to do. I sincerely hope that I can begin a social, professional and academic relationship with you; one that is sure to be mutually beneficial.
